Super Sentai teams - not Zyuranger - intended to be the first Power Rangers

edited April 2020 in General Discussion
I had just recently discovered that back in the early 1990's, the original intent for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers would be that the Japanese bird-themed Super Sentai Jetman would be the very first team of Power Rangers, the beginning of the long-time popular kids superhero show. Then I discovered that two others were up for consideration: Sun Vulcan and Bioman

"Jetman is one of the most beloved Super Sentai shows of them all—widely considered not just one of the best entries in the series, but the show that saved Super Sentai from potential cancelation. Haim Saban, who’d made several attempts to turn Super Sentai into a Western franchise, made attempts to adapt Jetman before scrapping them and eventually using its immediate successor, Zyuranger, as the basis for Power Rangers. If Jetman didn’t work as well as it did in Japan, Power Rangers as we know it today wouldn’t exist."

"Like its respective 1981 and 1984 predecessors Sun Vulcan and Bioman, Jetman was also considered to be the first series to be adapted as a Power Rangers series, but ultimately not adapted as Jetman has a more mature and adult-oriented story and Fox refused to have a show with teens having bird power and being too similar to the Battle of the Planets anime and DC comics' Hawkman."

"The threat of the Machine Empire Black Magma causes the EPDS (Earth Peace Defense Squad) to decide to establish the Solar Squadron at a summit. From the EPDS's Air Force, Navy, and Rangers, Commander Arashiyama assembles three specialists to become Sun Vulcan."

What do you Power Rangers think of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers being a 3-person team in regular cloth instead of a 5-person team in spandex? How do you think it would've turned out?

"Many centuries ago, the android Peebo and the Bio Robo came to Earth from the fallen Bio Star. The Bio Robo showered five people with the Bio Particles, which would be passed on to later generations. In the present day, Doctor Man and his Shin Teikoku (New Empire) Gear threaten the world. Peebo must find the descendants of the original Bio Particle-showered five to form the Choudenshi (Super Electronic Squadron) Bioman."

What do you Power Rangers think of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers didn't have a dino motif and looked a bit technological? How do you think it would've turned out?

Before Zyuranger, saban's used the bioman footage. this is a reconstitution of the pilote (based on galaxy rangers)

"This series takes place in 1991 on the Earth Ship, the command center of an international defence agency called Sky Force, the guardian of peace on Earth. In the ship, scientists have developed "Birdonic Waves", a newly developed technology which gives the subject superhuman abilities. The experiments called "J-Project" were successful. Aya Odagiri, the director of the project, chose five elite Sky Force officials from Earth to use this technology. Ryu Tendo, one of the Sky Force officers, was successfully exposed to the Birdonic waves, making him the first Jetman, the Red Hawk.

However, the Earth Ship is suddenly attacked by Vyram, an evil outer-dimensional organization bent on inter-dimensional domination. They successfully destroy the ship and seemingly killing Ryu's lover and fellow candidate member Rie, in the chaos. The remaining Birdonic waves that were meant for the other four officials become scattered on Earth, hitting four civilians instead. Odagiri and Tendo successfully escape and begin searching on Earth for the four remaining Jetman, training them to aid them in stopping Vyram's plans of conquering our dimension."
